About:
Filipino Crispy Pork Belly or Lechon Kawali is typically deep-fried in a pan. It is a very crunchy delicious pork dish that Filipino people enjoy eating as a main dish or a snack that goes with the beer drink. Traditional cooking uses a lot of oil and sometimes it is so hard to cook because of the splashing oil. With the use of an Air Fryer, you don’t need to use oil and no worries of oil splashing.
In this recipe, we made the crispy pork belly in a form of chips where you can enjoy the crunchy crispy pork belly in a bite size.

Steps
[boiling]
- Add the pork belly in the pot.
- Add water until the pork belly is fully submerged in the water.
- Add the other ingredients (listed in the ingredients for boiling)
- Turn on the heat (high heat) until it boils.
- Once boiling, lower the heat to medium-low heat and continue to simmer for about 40 minutes or until the pork belly is tender. (poke with fork or skewer to check if the pork belly is tender. When you poke the meat, it should easily go through)
[cooling]
- Once the pork belly is tendered, remove from the pot and cool it to room temperature.
- Cool it in the fridge overnight
- Put in the freezer for about an hour or until the meat is a bit firm. This will help to slice the pork belly thinly more easily.
[slicing]
- After the pork belly is slightly firm, slice it thinly
[air frying]
- Wait for the pork belly to be in room temperature
- Set the temperature of Air Fryer to 350F
- Place the sliced pork belly in the Air Fryer basket
- Cook it for 10 minutes each side and add more cooking time until the pork belly turns crispy and golden brown.
[dipping sauce option 1]
- Toss all the dipping sauce ingredients
- Adjust the amount based on your taste preferences
[dipping sauce option 2]
Use the Mang Tomas All Purpose Sauce.
