About This Dish
Gyudon is literally “Beef Bowl” in Japanese. It is a Japanese dish consisting of a bowl of rice topped with beef and onions simmered in a mildly sweet sauce. It is commonly served with beni shoga (pickled ginger) and shichimi (Japanese chili pepper). This is a very popular dish for Salary-Man (employed workers) in Japan as it is usually cheap, easy and quick way to get your tummy satisfied.
Ingredients:
700g beef (thin sliced)

7 tbsp soy sauce (https://amzn.to/32HqbjO)

1 cup water
2 tsp hondashi (powdered fish broth) (https://amzn.to/2J6ezj9)

Steps:
1. Grate the ginger.
2. Combine sake (Japanese rice wine), mirin, sugar, soy sauce, grated ginger, dashi and water.
3. Bring the sauce (mixed ingredients in step 2) to a boil for 2 minutes.
4. Reduce the liquid.
5. Add onions and cook for 2 minutes
6. Add beef and cook for 4 minutes
7. Wait until the liquid evaporates to half
8. Prepare a bowl with the rice
9. Add the beef on top of the rice and add some pickled ginger (beni shoga) and shichimi (Japanese chili powder)
